IRAN: A CAROUSEL OF LIES & TRUTHS

medium_BY_THANOS_KALAMIDAS.27.jpgIt is strange how difficult it is for the average reader to find out what really happened with the 15 UK navy people in Iran. It is equally difficult to believe what happened with the Iranian hostage in Iraq and it is impossible to make any guess anymore. For that everybody is responsible, especially the governments with all this spin over the last few years - today you have no idea who says the truth and who’s lying.

Two weeks ago, when I wrote an article about the event, I was sure that the UK navy was saying the truth insisting that the navy group was inside Iraqi waters and that the whole Iranian operation was intentional. Two weeks after I have no doubt about that. I do believe that the whole operation was a trap from the Iranian side, well-planned before and perfectly executed, even to the level of foreseeing the reactions from the British government.

The propaganda spin was really good and I said in that other article that the Iranian target had never been the western world since they knew how the western media, politicians and army would react. Their target had been all the way the Middle East and the Arab world, and they managed really well to show that they are an accountable power in the area.

As odd as it sounds when Iran ‘freed’ the navy people and their stories came out, nobody was really surprised to what they heard; somehow everybody was expecting that, but, at the same time, people didn’t …really take them seriously, which is the odd detail that changes the whole picture. Note that at the same time some Iraqis – it is unknown what and who – freed an Iranian diplomat that had been held hostage for weeks. The diplomat, upon his return to Teheran, claimed that Americans were behind his captivity and that he was interrogated and tortured by CIA agents. Nobody was surprised!

Of course everybody had doubts; you see it happened that his claims came just after the 15 British navy people claimed torture and psychological force from the Iranians and it seemed somehow logical for the Iranians to answer. But then, the Americans have imprisoned people without any explanation and they do keep them transgressing human rights in prisons like Guantanamo’s and, yes, the CIA has practiced torture and they have admitted it.

So, why should I not believe the Iranian diplomat while at the very same time I was expecting to hear the British navy people complaining and claiming torture from the Iranians? Why should I believe that the very same people made perfect use of the whole incident and spin it so cleverly would make a stupid mistake like that?

But then why would the Americans and CIA capture and torture an Iranian diplomat who they knew would, one way or another, be returned and incriminate them for torture? To make it worse, days after the 15 British soldiers were freed we found out in all the media that they had already arranged to sell their stories to media giants for six-figure deals - I will need a lifetime and a little more to reach a six-figure bank account, so I am speechless, in disbelief and in doubt if anybody cares to tell me the truth.

Because I am the final target of all of them. I am the final target for all the spin, I am the final target who will read the story the media will publish and I am the target who will vote for them. Is it worth it? In the end if these fifteen people really went through all that, was it worth on their return to find me not believing them, or doubt their stories? Perhaps George W. Bush and Tony Blair would be the best to answer this question since they were the first to start this carousel of lies, but who would believe them!
